Frequently Asked Questions

~How long do sessions last?
I do not put a strict time limit on my sessions. Typically sessions will last about an hour to an hour & a half, but as long as everyone is having a good time, I'll keep shooting! =)

Full newborn sessions can last 2-3 hours (maybe more, depending on how well baby cooperates)

~What do I wear?
Avoid overbearing patterns and logos.
Lighter tones are best for Spring/Summer portraits whereas darker tones are best for Fall/Winter sessions.
See more suggestions on our What Do I Wear? page.

~When should I schedule a Maternity Session?
Schedule your session between 30-35 weeks for best portraits that will avoid extra swelling that can occur during your last 5 weeks.

Bring any props with you if you wish, such as an ultra sound photo, baby booties, etc.

~When should I schedule a newborn session?
Newborn sessions should be done as soon as possible, no later than two weeks to truly capture the newness of your baby's life. Let me know your due date, and we will tentatively schedule your session.  If baby decides to come sooner or later, we will reschedule, no probem. =)

~How do I prepare for a newborn session?
Wait to feed your newborn until right before the session. This will help your baby sleep for most of the session.

The majority of the newborn session is taken with no clothing.
I do have wraps, blankets, hats, bows, etc. for them to wear, but feel free to bring a special outfit if you wish.

If you would like to include yourself or your family in the newborn session, wearing dark pants or jeans with plain dark long sleeve shirts is recommended to help your baby stand out. I may also need you to hold your baby & stand in as a "backdrop."

~My child is shy, what can I do?
Feel free to bring a special blanket, toy, or stuffed animal to the session.  These items may make your child feel more comfortable and we may even use them for the photos. We will have plenty of time allotted so no one will feel rushed.

~Do you shoot on location or in studio?
I shoot on location for family and portrait sessions. These are great for natural lighting and a variety of backdrops and options. For newborn sessions, I have a small studio in my home, or I can come to your home or location of your choice with a small setup.
